Frequently asked questions

Everything about the Parfeed exchange rate API — sources, updates, coverage, and pricing.

What is Parfeed?

Parfeed is an exchange rate API that delivers official foreign-exchange reference rates sourced exclusively from central banks. Instead of aggregating market data, it pulls the rates each central bank publishes and serves them through one clean REST API and dashboard.

Where do the exchange rates come from?

Every rate comes directly from an issuing central bank — over 90 of them, including the European Central Bank (ECB), the US Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, and many more. Each rate is traceable to its official source, so it is suitable for accounting, treasury, and compliance use.

How often are the rates updated?

Rates are refreshed every business day as each central bank publishes them. Parfeed follows each bank's own publishing schedule and holiday calendar, so you always get the latest official value without false gaps on weekends or national holidays.

Is there a free exchange rate API tier?

Yes. The free tier includes the European Central Bank (ECB) reference rates — roughly 30 currency pairs — free forever, with no credit card required. Paid plans add more central banks and higher limits.

Which currencies and central banks are covered?

Parfeed covers 95+ central banks and more than 2,000 currency pairs across every region — Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. You can browse the full list, with each bank's currencies and publishing schedule, on the Coverage page.

Does Parfeed provide historical exchange rates?

Yes. Full historical data is included on every plan. You can query the time series for any covered currency pair over any date range through the history endpoint, which is ideal for charts, trend analysis, and backtesting.

How is Parfeed different from other exchange rate APIs?

Most exchange rate APIs aggregate market or bank quotes. Parfeed serves only the official reference rates published by central banks, each traceable back to its source. That makes it a better fit when you need authoritative, auditable rates rather than indicative market prices.

How do I access the rates through the API?

Sign up for a free account to get an API key, then call the REST endpoints over HTTPS — for example /v1/rates for the latest rates and /v1/rates/history for a time series. Full interactive documentation is available at /docs.

What does Parfeed cost?

Parfeed has a free ECB-only tier plus three paid monthly plans: Pro at $49, Business at $99, and Enterprise at $139, which unlocks every central bank Parfeed covers. See the pricing section on the homepage for the current details.
